STONE IN LOVE

The original painting is in the private collection. Of my mom.

LUSH LIFE

Aaaahhh, the lush life. I have been called a very happy lush. It’s a term of endearment for me so as a vice naturally I’d say it’s one of my favorites. I have so many rationales indicating endless international happy hour rules and so many more green lights toward drinking engagements always at the ready! Take the edge off? I’m as edgy as a Picasso portrait! Social medication? All for it, all of society should have a drink! It’s all good, that is until the slurring begins, then it’s time to exit! At least this vice is legal, right?

ANXIETY HIGH

I’ve heard Seattle has the highest suicide rate in this country, that’s not true, it’s ranked 44th. Seattle has the highest suicide rate in the country, not true, Vegas holds that honor. What is up with Seattle? Seems like someone is out to get Seattle! Imagine living somewhere where the rest of the country thinks such dark lies about? That can be pretty nerve wracking. Wouldn’t that be enough to cause a wild rollercoaster of anxieties in any life?

THE HOUSE

Maybe you haven’t noticed, but house music is everywhere! Today it has many faces, drum and bass, deep house, techno, etc., combine them all and you’ll see, or hear that it’s everywhere! Especially in Miami, maybe it’s the heat, maybe some other reason but Miami loves its house music! All year long thousands of head bobbing music lovers descend on this city just to experience this amazing flow of energy! A vibe that can only be experienced when you feel the throngs of people, dancing with you, sharing the same energy as you, at exactly the same moment! It’s a very, very sexy vice!

ONE LOVE

My tribute to Keith Haring, he was a great artist and a wonderful human being.

HOMELAND

Sometimes all I need is a sheet of blank paper, a bottle of wine, and my ball-point pen to pull ideas and imagery from my mental closet. Being stuck hours on flights where it’s hard to distract myself helps a lot (I am distracted pretty easily). Long flights are actually the birthplace for many of my ideas, many of which became paintings for An Unusual Journey! On one particularly long flight I sketched this eagle face. As the eagle came to life I began seeing buildings (don’t ask why, I don’t any more), buildings then became homes by the simple addition of the mailbox. Shortly after, Homeland, concept and title, were born! My pen drawings are done in usually one in sitting with no pencil sketch, eraser or prior idea, just by placing pen to page and letting the hand and mind flow. So when I get something good like this I’m as surprised as anyone else!

LIQUID

Airbrush is a magic wand really

STAIRWAY

Go ahead, sing it, and watch everything start move together and even make sense.

COUSIN’S JAZZ

The jazz club in Brooklyn is long gone, luckily i had a camera and snapped a pic of my mural.

OUTCAST

Noir:
who among us is worthy to cast the first stone? who is purest of heart and mind to cast judgment on any other? we are all fallible, those in churches, mansions, penthouses all just as fallible as those in the projects or slums. is banishment or censure the answer? redemption can be found, but only if the road is taken whether by force or choice. the unknown can be a fearful idea; many people we know already choose a guaranteed misery over the unknown. would you accept the path undiscovered if offered a “last chance”?

Graff:
this 3d style is a simpler version of my normally complex and heavily shaded style. it’s been a personal challenge of mine in this series to accomplish the 3d aspect using a limited palette and graphic coloring instead of heavy shading and blending color. the outcome, especially here, is a completely new and hybrid style that combines original graffiti shapes from the nyc 80s style, the 3d style of the 90s and this new “super” pop style, which i am really enjoying!
