Without Hollywood, there’s really nothing spectacular about LA, it’s slow paced, smoggy and prone to wildfires, riots, mudslides, writer strikes and earthquakes! Maybe it’s my NYCity boy upbringing but in the several years I lived there I found it rather boring. However boredom sometimes is a necessary ingredient to spark great ideas, and so the series of drawings I did during my time there have been a big part of this Unusual Journey! I experimented a lot in ridiculousness and the surreal. It’s not as easy at it looks to create bizarre imagery; I actually named my practice of it. Style Flow, along with at least a dozen other paintings are all part of this Imaginating period. Maybe LA isn’t such a bad place after all!

Miami is in itself a grand vice. I’d say at least it’s a popular vice for New Yorkers! I run into more new Yorkers here in Miami than I do in Manhattan! The Ferrari’s, the Bentley’s, Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road, vice, vice and more vice! They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but what happens in Miami, well that’s a whole different story! People here can’t let their happenings hide, people here shout them out! The crazier the story the better! The Miami Vice Card, I’m a member since 2009!

Everyone should have at least one “hippiechic” in their life! A sweet, smiling, no make up wearing girl (or male) that eternally surrounds us with love and optimism and brightness! So much so that at certain times we want to beat the constant optimism out of them with a garden hose! (Just kidding but sometimes all that optimism can be grating!) Of course, I immediately miss my hippechic soon as she’s gone! I miss her energy, her unconditional love. That is of course until she catches me again and the cycle of niceness begins all over! Optimism is a great thing but sometimes we need crappy days to remind us how to appreciate the great ones! Ultimately, I believe that love can save most days and for the few it can’t save, there’s always my hippiechic!
5 colors; Black, gray, white, red and fluorescent red and white, for those of us that still have black lights in our bedrooms. That was the palette I used for my most popular series yet. Seems people can’t get enough witches, vampires and zombies! Luckily there’s always room for one more where fashion and horror meet and hells bells ring for the runways potion! Or something similar to that!

From my LA, Imaginating series (hmmm, I guess I did enjoy my time in LA). Living in LA, I drove a 66’ Ford Bronco. She was a lot of fun, I had to unbolt the top, drag it into my friend’s back yard where it would sit for months so I could enjoy convertible living! I nearly drove her off a cliff while off-roading! We drove deep into Mexico together for a weekend of debauchery! We even drove across the country stopping at all the sites from LA to NYC where sadly, experiencing her first winter ever, she died. The drawing came from my love of that thing and now, over 15 years after, she rides again! Was there ever an actual orgy in that truck, hmmmmm…

A favorite and recurring of mine theme is music, house music to be more precise. People incorrectly assume that my roots in graffiti naturally make me some part of hip hop. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Although I enjoyed the beginnings of hip hop, today’s hip hop is foreign to me and not nearly as exciting and original as the pioneers. Today’s affliction for me is house music! I have come to love house music with a passion! Addicted to it’s melodic spell, I love the house DJ, I hate the DJ! Definitely some kind of freaky mind control going on!

Black spy? White spy? Which was your favorite? If you know what I’m even talking about then our childhoods were probably very similar. Comics, humor and superheroes ruled my every waking moment back in those. Mad magazine was responsible for shaping my comedic youth and Marvel for inspiring me to draw more! Nothing was more important than getting my hands on that monthly mag of humor! That is until I discovered girls! It’s ironic that today I would absolutely choose a Mad magazine over a Playboy, but Hustler is a completely different story.

Walter is a manifestation from my ball-point pen series (and a long flight!). Dragons are cool, and I’d be lying if I said I don’t like drawing them. I painted numerous dragons in my past and since I’m not the only artist that likes creating dragons I usually try to spin mine a little differently. As I draw, a story reveals itself from my mind. Walter is my mystical sea dragon. He is protector of the riches from sunken vessels lost at sea! However, Walter is chronically shy so he doesn’t do his job very well, but don’t worry, Walter’s sea-dragon uncle got him into the dragon union, so he has dragon tenure! As long as he pays hid dragon dues, Walter will be fine!

If you were paying attention, at this point you might recall that the Pixel Dust series was my only digital series. If you weren’t paying attention, well that’s ok, there’s no quiz coming after. I wanted to twist the idea around and instead of making a digital piece I would paint a piece in a loose digital style. Pixilation? Big bit-maps, little boxes? It’s no use, you will never get away from Brooklyn, it’s in the DNA. No matter how fast, or how far you try to run you won’t escape, you’ll never get away! The bright lights of Manhattan will taunt you forever from that unreachable distance. The few who do get away still end up carrying an insatiable yearning for home, Brooklyn!

A woman with self-confidence, self-respect, elegance and independence is a powerful vice. When you add style and swagger to that woman, you get something entirely mesmerizing! When a person’s style and attitude are so on point seemingly without trying it’s almost hypnotic. I assume a style like that almost always starts with the shoes! High-heels, open toes, flats, whatever the style, whatever the length, whichever the color, when flaunted correctly it’s a powerful aphrodisiac and I love it!

I’ve always wondered how certain fetishes came to be and what drove certain minds to push certain cultural limits to where they are. When did latex and PVC become a symbol for naughtiness and sexual abandon? The word Fetish comes from the 15th century Portuguese word feitico, meaning “charm, or to charm”. Could this be a false power? Nowadays, fetish involves the transfer of power from an original source onto a substitute. A fetishist is someone who operates outside the circle of what is usually considered normal. I ask who is it that decides what is considered normal and why? Can fetish be a pseudonym for extreme creativity!
