NEW AND IMPROVED PARTING SHOT

Done! After 13 months and 168 paintings, the final piece. Finished with 1 day to spare! I chose to close this journey with a 3D graffiti piece because that’s when I broke away from my graffiti peers and it was an important break for me. The more I separated myself from the pack the more I artistically grew. Every challenge defined me more and prepared me for this journey, this incredible, and very unusual journey!

BATTLE FOR EVL, MIAMI

Well it must be clear by now, although I don’t do as much graffiti as I once did I still love returning to the genre that is the foundation of all my styles. I probably have also made it clear that Brooklyn will always be a recurring subject in my life and works. However, here now is my ode to Miami. Brooklyn may have been the beginning, but Miami is the now. Like Brooklyn, Miami is carving a spot deep in my heart. It’s still in so many ways a dirty little town (little like Brooklyn), bohemian in many areas, polished and glitzy in others! I declare that Miami is today the urban art capital of the world! Good and evil still wage constant war in these city streets. I fear, love, respect and embrace its many faces.

DULCE

Dulce, the sticky sweetness and lick-the-lips kind of candy you can’t get enough of. It’s candy for the eyes and senses, touch and taste; taste the lips; taste down the throat. Filled with flavor, with “Mmmmmmm’s” and “Ahhhhh’s” this is my candy. I’ll bet you’re wondering if I brought enough to share!

WILD STYLE LESSON #1

Graffiti artists come packed with styles. The craziest, most complex of them all is the Wild Style. In a wild style the object is to take the letters of a name or word and outrageously exaggerate, decorate and accentuate them beyond recognition, so much exaggerating of the original that it becomes an abstraction. To the average viewer it is abstract but to the graffiti aficionado eye, it’s obviously apparent. This is one of the most fun traits of a “wild style” piece. Like a Liberace piano, blinged out and over-bedazzled, it’s still a piano! Like the word EVL in this piece, it’s there, even if you can’t see it! Fortunately, I have included a cheat sheet to assist you along.

FEELING IRIE

Experimentation, challenge, exploration. These are just a few things that help keep me striving as an artist. I can’t be happy doing only one style over and over, my mind would revolt! I’m eternally in “create something new mode.” Up to now I always felt it was a detriment not being able to focus on any one theme or style for long, but after this marathon I have realized that my detriment has become my best asset! Even though some paintings may not seem similar to each other, the works of the entire body now share a common thread and that’s my style!

THE BOSS

Foreshortening is fun! I love it! It’s an integral ingredient in many of my works and has become kind of the thing that ties many of my pieces to a common thread. Yes, that thread may be thin, but it’s still there. When I grow bored of a particular style, as is often is the case, I usually fall back to that thread. Foreshortening, exaggerating the movement of the subject to intensify the story, that may be the common link between all of it, the graffiti, the storytelling, the misfits, there is always an aspect of that reach out and grab you, either with color or shading or whatever! Amazing that it took so many paintings to finally see that thin thread!

INVICTA TIME

It was a great time. We made a lot of watches together. First ever Artist Series by INVICTA. Made 7 series. Great time, Invicta time.

MAGIC CITY

Miami, The Magic City, with all its wonderful sunshine, beaches, night life, art and design, but also very non magical traffic, crime, etc. But we still love it, and paint it too.

ASCENDING ARROWS

I wanted to make these arrows, main elements of graffiti, move and spread like sunshine.
