HARAJUKU KITTY

Somewhere in Japan there is the Harajuku district (I have visited it often thanks to the internet!), and on my many visits there (virtually) I learned that something amazing happens in Harajuku. Japanese teens dress in wild, colorful clothing (mostly home made)! It’s a wild explosion of youth, color, imagination and creativity! Everything from make-up, accessories, and fashion, to hair styling is molded, mixed and transformed into individualism! Individualism that has all but disappeared here in the states! Harajuku Kitty was painted free style; colors, shape and form were added as I went along! Some things worked, some didn’t, but the goal was never to have anything “work,” the goal was to explore the wrong road, to discover beauty in the awful mistakes! The goal is to reclaim individualism!

whether you pinned or prodded someone, or someone poked and prickled you, we have all felt the sharp stings, pinches and pains as much as the joys, euphoria and glow of love at one time or another. emotions that stir parts of your soul you never knew existed before then. pleasure and pain that will ultimately become the emotional baggage we each have brought to every relationship after, meaningful or not!

Poor little Tatts, all he wanted after a particularly rough day was to quietly sneak down an alley to have himself a drink and a smoke, to ponder and contemplate life’s intricate meanings before being interrupted by the bright spotlights from the local authorities. Could a day get any worse?

Las estrellas bailan al paso de nuestra guitarra.
Tus caderas de huesos toca mi rumba.
Tienes una templadura que da locura.
Eres mi otra mita y la muerte no nos separa.

Amantes, padres, acompañeros del alma vistan y celebrad.

THE WORLD IS YOURS

A leopard can’t change his spots, but sometimes she wouldn’t need to! All one needs is confidence and individuality. It’s a theme I have used in many paintings. The “uncomfortable in my own skin wearing the stripes or spots of another animal” theme is what I call it. I don’t know what fascinates me about this theme but I do believe if one can overcome the insecurities of their own stripes or spots, one can accomplish great things and literally have the world!

PANDA SUIT

Would a panda wear a leather suit? Of course, I could only suggest to you that it really is a panda in the panda suit but who would you believe? Myself, or your lying eyes?


FACE CONTROL

Like a virus they grow in numbers, existing now in every city! Each armed with the snobbery of indifference as their arrogant stares fall onto you and I from beyond their long-beaked snouts. Imagine the delight of being one of the few that are chosen! Being granted the privilege of spending obnoxious amounts of currency selectively deemed special enough to party with the few chosen others. How important is this goal? Despite my craving for their extinction, their numbers have continued to grow and have, indeed, crossed boundaries worldwide! I wonder who was it that chose the choosers? Was it you, was it me?

VALENTINE

Ok, ok, this piece doesn’t really have much to do with this series, but with Valentines Day approaching and V being one of my favorite letters, I decided to slip this one in. My mischievous misfits seem destined to invade more shows than they are supposed to! Valentine has been lurking around my mind for years now and I guess she finally decided to free herself and in doing so, she leaves me a little freer too!
